Back in November, the City Year teams at Sarah T. Reed Elementary and ReNEW Accelerated High School hosted a Thanksgiving drive at their schools.  They held these events to address the technical “homelessness” and economic struggles of families whose children attend their schools.  Poverty should not be a reason for a family to not have a good Thanksgiving dinner.

Combined , the two schools raised nearly $2000 dollars in food and monetary donations.  Students also brought in canned goods and the winning home room won a pizza party.

Team Leader Amy Jackson’s birthday fell on the last day of the canned food drive.  What’s the best way to celebrate a birthday?  Why it’s eating cake of course!  The Reed Elementary School team surprised Amy with a birthday cake, which was clearly exciting for all involved.
